Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz “misspoke” in a 2018 video circulated by the Harris marketing campaign earlier this week that included the vice presidential candidate speaking about his dealing with of weapons “in struggle,” a marketing campaign spokesperson mentioned Friday.

The clarification comes after Republicans, led by veteran and vice presidential candidate JD Vance, have attacked Walz over his military record.

“Governor Walz would by no means insult or undermine any American’s service to this nation — the truth is, he thanks Senator Vance for placing his life on the road for our nation. It is the American means,” a marketing campaign spokesperson mentioned in an announcement.

“In making the case for why weapons of struggle ought to by no means be on our streets or in our lecture rooms, the Governor misspoke. He did deal with weapons of struggle and believes strongly that solely army members skilled to hold these lethal weapons ought to have entry to them, in contrast to Donald Trump and JD Vance who prioritize the gun foyer over our kids,” the spokesperson added.

The video clip of Walz’s earlier remarks confirmed him discussing gun management and referring to his personal army background. “We are able to guarantee that these weapons of struggle, that I carried in struggle, is the one place the place these weapons are at,” Walz says within the clip posted by Harris’ marketing campaign on Tuesday.

Walz was not deployed to a fight zone throughout his years of army service.
