Lawmakers reward Wells Fargo department union

WASHINGTON — Democratic lawmakers on Thursday praised employees at a New Mexico department of Wells Fargo for turning into the primary department of the nation’s fourth-largest bank to unionize.
“Your success brings the combat for the Dignity of Work on to Wall Avenue’s entrance door,” said Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, chairman of the Senate Banking Committee.
“I look ahead to watching your motion develop from department to department throughout the nation,” Brown mentioned in his assertion.
Employees on the financial institution’s Albuquerque department voted 5 to three on Wednesday to unionize underneath the Communications Employees of America’s Wells Fargo Employees United.
The vote made Wells Fargo the primary main U.S. lender with a unionized workforce.
“That is the primary union at a giant financial institution within the nation! #UnionStrong,” Rep. Melanie Stansbury, a New Mexico Democrat, wrote in a submit on the social media website X, previously often called Twitter.
The organizing transfer follows successful negotiations by the United Auto Employees, SAG-AFTRA and the Writers Guild of America after weeks of strikes earlier this 12 months.
However employees at an Alaska Wells Fargo department final week withdrew a petition to type a union.
Wells Fargo was among the many banks eyed in an industry-wide investigation into discriminatory mortgage lending in 2022.
